CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) — Amanda Anisimova rallied from a set right down to defeat top-seeded Aryna Sabalenka of Belarus and attain the quarterfinals on the Charleston Open.
Sabalenka received her first match in virtually six weeks on Wednesday and took the opening set in opposition to Anisimova.
But the Fifteenth-seeded American got here again to win the ultimate two units within the 3-6, 6-4, 6-3 victory.
Anisimova improved to 3-0 in opposition to the world’s No. 5 participant.
The surprises continued on the season’s first clay-court occasion with CoCo Vandeweghe beating American countrywoman No. 6 seed Jessica Pegula 6-4, 3-6, 6-4.
