Roman Kemp has made appearances in many reality shows outside of his regular day job as a Capital FM’s DJ.
So far he’s taken part in the celebrity edition of First Dates, I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out of Here and Celebrity Gogglebox, which he signed up to four years ago.
The 28-year-old is not shy to participate and is more than willing to give shows like this a go.
On the other hand, he admits that his father Martin Kemp wasn’t quite so keen.
As a huge fan of the Channel 4 show, Roman Kemp was more than happy to join the other celebrities in the line up but he couldn’t do it alone and needed his dad on board with it too.
In an interview Roman Kemp gives to the Daily Mirror, he said that when his dad was approached by producers, his immediate response was no but it had to take a lot of convincing on Roman’s part for him to reconsider.
“I’ve always loved it but I had to convince my dad to do it. They approached us and I was like ‘oh my God let’s absolutely do it’.
“And he said, ‘No, I don’t think so. I don’t want want people in the house. I don’t want people to see me scratching my bits and all that’.”
The main reason that Roman felt strongly that his dad should take part in the show, aside ffrom it being fun and something he’s always wanted to do, is for people to see that he’s a ‘nice guy’.
Martin Kemp is known for playing tough and raging characters including his starring in crime drama, The Krays as Reggie Kray and more widely as Steve Owen in EastEnders.
Roman says “That is the nicest thing about doing Gogglebox, that finally people get to see my dad and who he really is – and he’s not some scary bloke.”
Roman had won the hearts of the nation since his stint on I’m A Celeb, winning third place and now the pair have been strong favourites on the show, so his hard work has finally paid off.
