He continued: “That was the biggest change I made. With giving up alcohol, the weight drops off and because the weight dropped it was easier to cycle. So it was easier to stay fit. That’s all it was. I’m just not really focused on it. I’ve not really made a big fuss about it. I just stopped drinking.”

He added: “At this point in my life, yeah, I’m quite happy not drinking. And the result is I’ve lost about three stones in weight. I had always liked cycling but as anybody who cycles knows, it’s a lot easier if you are lighter. People will spend hundreds of pounds on shaving 10 grams off equipment, like lighter pedals.

“Just go and lose some weight and your physique might be 10 kilos lighter than that.”

It feels like a long time since we last saw Ian Beale in EastEnders, after actor Adam Woodyatt took an extended break from the soap back in January 2021. His exit storyline saw Ian leave Walford after his new-wife Sharon Watts tried to poison him to death.

Since then, Adam has been enjoying acting in the stage production Looking Good Dead which has been touring the UK. He also starred in last year’s series of I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here!

It hasn’t yet been confirmed when, and if, we will see the much adored and long-running character back on Albert Square – but we hope it isn’t to long!
