Letter: Why deface somebody’s property? | Opinions and Editorials

Today I used to be getting up from my work desk at residence and noticed a bumper sticker on my automotive that I didn’t place there. It was a political decal (6-inches-by-4.5-inches) referring to a canine’s intelligence in comparison with the present president. Where has frequent decency gone? What makes an individual assume that he/she has the fitting to place his/her opinion on my personal property with out asking?

Much of my grownup life I’ve tried to comply with some primary rules that embody honesty, braveness, integrity, service to my fellow man, consciousness of God in my life, self-discipline, humility and mutual respect for these in my life. I fail usually however proceed to strive. The one that put the bumper sticker on my automotive may not dwell by the identical code. What saddens me is just not the political identify used, however the audacity and willfulness of some who seem to assume that there’s just one strategy to assume and that it’s essential to push that opinion on anybody that he/she thinks may not be in accordance together with his/her views. Whoever put this sticker on my automotive has no thought what my political opinions are. It was positioned subsequent to a sticker that reads “My Dog Digs Aiken.”

I eliminated the sticker and known as Aiken Public Safety. I needed to see if this was occurring routinely. They had been unaware of every other calls. I thanked them for his or her service as a result of they’re a formidable group of people who find themselves right here to assist our residents.

While this can be a non-issue for some, it isn’t for me. The act of defacing somebody’s property says extra in regards to the particular person who did this than any political message that was pressured upon me. I’m grateful that my mother and father taught me to respect different folks’s property. My hope is sooner or later this particular person values this lesson as nicely.
