London teacher banned after masturbating on camera in front of ’14-year-old girl’ but avoids jail

A teacher at a prestigious private school has been banned from the classroom after he masturbated on camera in front of an undercover officer posing as a 14-year-old girl. Christopher Dunsmore taught at Colfe’s School in Greenwich for ten years before he was arrested in 2017.

The 41-year-old admitted attempting to engage in sexual communications with a child but avoided prison and was given a six month suspended sentence. However, at a recent Teaching Misconduct hearing, a panel ruled he should not be allowed to ever work in an educational setting with children again.

In a chat room, Dunsmore responded to someone who introduced themselves as a 14-year-old girl. He introduced himself as Christopher and told them he was a 36-year-old teacher. He began a sexual conversation which ended in him masturbating and ejaculating on camera.

When he was arrested and it was revealed that he was actually talking to a cop, not a 14-year-old girl, Dunsmore confessed that this was not the first time he had done this. He told police he had a long term habit which started when he was 21 and training to be a teacher.

“He said that initially he would speak to people that were 16 to 19 years old, as he hadn’t had many serious girlfriends, and preferred younger girls as he wasn’t very confident. He said that he found it exciting and it became a habit,” a misconduct hearing was told.

Dunsmore told police that he engaged in sexual conversations with people as young as 13. He would introduce himself as a teacher and even offer to do their homework as he liked the idea of the children ‘being in control’. Despite this, Dunsmore insisted he was not sexually attracted to children but enjoyed the excitement of ‘breaking the rules’.

Dunsmore was not present at the disciplinary hearing which decided to ban him from the classroom for life.
