Man shot within the shoulder by police in Coffs Harbour


A person has been shot by police after allegedly trying to drive at police in Coffs Harbour.

The man was pulled over on the Pacific Highway, south of the Stadium Drive intersection about 10.30am immediately, and allegedly as officers approached he “drove at them”.

Police mentioned an officer discharged their gun, hitting the 29-year-old within the shoulder.

The man then fled the scene, police mentioned, sparking a pursuit alongside the Pacific Highway.

He was arrested when he stopped on Hogbin Drive.

He has been handled by paramedics earlier than being taken to Coffs Harbour Hospital in a critical however steady situation.

“Two crime scenes have been established and a critical incident team from Mid North Coast Police District will now investigate all circumstances surrounding the incident,” police mentioned in an announcement.

“That investigation will be subject to an independent review.”

The Pacific Highway stays closed northbound.
