NEW SHOREHAM , R.I. (WLNE) — The Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management mentioned Thursday the Mohegan Bluffs staircase on Block Island might be closed to guests as a consequence of repairs beginning May 23.

The staircase, which is a part of the Edward S. Payne overlook on the island, might be closed till these repairs are full.

“Public spaces must be accessible for public enjoyment and accessibility starts with safety,” mentioned DEM Director Terry Gray.

“We hope that those wishing to take in the dramatic view of the Atlantic from the overlook will understand that it must be temporarily closed while the staircase is being repaired.”

The Mohegan Bluffs are 150 ft excessive and has 140 steps that lead from the highest of the bluff to the seaside beneath.
