USC Gamecocks champions to get Main Street Columbia SC parade


Get able to rejoice the nationwide champion South Carolina ladies’s basketball workforce with a parade down Main Street on Wednesday, April 13.

The parade will begin at 6 p.m. downtown and finish on the State House with speeches and different fanfare.

Columbia Mayor Daniel Rickenmann introduced the festivities in a tweet Wednesday afternoon.

Shortly after the Gamecocks gained the nationwide championship Sunday, followers had been already asking Rickenmann for a parade to rejoice. Rickenmann mentioned he agreed, the workforce deserved a grand city-led celebration.

City and USC officers have spent the week organizing these efforts.

This would be the second parade Columbia has hosted for a championship-winning Gamecock ladies’s basketball workforce. Dawn Staley took the workforce to the championship and gained in 2017, too.

In addition to the parade, Hootie & the Blowfish frontman Darius Rucker has hinted at a free live performance on USC’s Horseshoe. He first promised a present on Twitter earlier than the championship recreation. After the Gamecocks gained, a reporter requested USC President Harris Pastides his opinion on the free present, to which Pastides mentioned, grinning, “We want it right away.”

Rucker responded on Twitter saying “I’m in.”
